Dolores ("Dee") Walter, age 72, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026.
Born and raised in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, Dee graduated from Lincoln High School in Midland before moving to Akron, Ohio, where she earned her bachelor's degree in education from The University of Akron, becoming the first in her family to earn a college degree. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Justin ("Judd") Walter. They shared 46 years of marriage before his passing in 2024.
Dee's passion for education was a defining thread throughout her life. Over a distinguished four-decade career with Barberton City Schools, she devoted herself to helping students realize their potential, including many years supporting students with learning differences and diverse learning needs.
Dee later returned to The University of Akron to earn her master's degree in instructional technology, further demonstrating her deep commitment to her profession and to lifelong learning. She was also a forward-thinking advocate for the role of technology in education, often serving as a resource to fellow educators and students alike. Her classroom extended well beyond school walls, and she continued to guide and encourage her children and grandchildren in their academic journeys long after retirement.
Dee had an extraordinary network of lifelong friendships, and she found joy bicycling with Judd through Northeast Ohio's Metroparks and green spaces, creating lasting memories in the natural places they loved. Above all, Dee was a proud and loving grandmother who cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. In her final weeks, she was especially grateful to spend time surrounded by all of her grandchildren together, including a special week-long visit from her daughter, Lauren, and her three-month-old son, Andrew, who traveled from Washington, DC..
Dee was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Mildred Cindric; her brother, John; and her beloved husband, Judd. She is survived by her children Justin (Laura), Jonathan (Rebecca), Scott (Jennifer), and Lauren (Justin), as well as her cherished grandchildren Allison, Nathan, Luke, Bridget, Wesley, Lincoln, and Andrew.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent-St. Mary High School's Intervention Services program in memory of Dolores Walter, honoring her lifelong dedication to supporting students with diverse learning needs.
