David J Sestokas passed away peacefully June 19, 2026, at the age of 99.
He was born and raised in Pittsburgh PA. He joined the Army / Air Corp and served during WWII in Germany. After the war and upon his return to Pittsburgh, he met his first wife Beatrice at a dance. David loved to dance and listen to the big band music. He especially loved a good Polka. David and Beatrice married and had seven children together. After Beatrices untimely death he would soon meet and marry his second wife Rose. David was a devout Catholic and his faith ran deep. He prayed daily and tried not to miss a weekend mass. He passed this devout faith on to his children. After his marriage to his second wife Rose. He moved his family to Manchester Oh. in the mid 60's to work at Babock & Wilcox. He worked there until his retirement in the 80's. After retirement he and his wife moved back to Pittsburgh until Rose's death. He then went to live with his daughter Susan in Virginia. He was very active in the Seniors group attached to their church. After many years with Susan, he moved back to Ohio to live with his son Richard. He filled his later days listening to Polka music, reading or doing crossword puzzles. And he loved lottery scratch off tickets.
David was an avid lifelong Steelers fan. He passed his passion for the Steelers on to his family also. He loved being with his family, and he traveled the United States and Germany to visit them. Germany held a special place in his heart. He talked often about his seeing the Nuremberg Trials and the beautiful German countryside in WWII. And was able to return many years later to visit his son while he and his family were stationed there. He was always ready for an adventure. He would just need to grab his hat and his Steelers coat, and he was ready to go.
David was proceeded in death by his father and mother: Anthony P Sestokas and Agnes (Washner) Sestokas. His two wife's Beatrice (Swartzmiller) and Rose (Gawlas) three of his sons Terrance, Ricky John Sestokas, and Anthony Swartsmiller. Two grandchildren, Heather and Joshua. His three sisters and one brother.
He is survived by his two daughters Susan (Tim) Warwick, Deborah Watson and his two sons Richard (Theresa), and David (Mary) Sestokas also his daughter in law Rochelle Swartzmiller. He left a loving legacy of 12 grandchildren, 17 great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild. And many nieces and nephews in both Pittsburgh and Ohio.
To say David had a great life is an understatement. Through the ups and downs of the years he remained faithful to his roots and his faith. And if you ask anyone, they would say he was quite a character. He will be deeply missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 30, 11 am at Holy Family Catholic Church 3179 Kent Rd. in Stow. David will be privately laid to rest, with full miltary honors, at St. Martin Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA.
