Daniel Bates Norris Jr. died peacefully on October 28th, 2024, at the age of 78. He was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania on January 3rd, 1946, and soon moved to Akron, Ohio where he attended North High School and then on to graduate from the University of Akron with a bachelor's and master's degree in education along with his membership in Phi Kappa Tau with close friend Steve Horvath. He taught in the Akron Public Schools system for 30 years before retiring.
Dan loved his novels, especially those of Lee Child and James Patterson. He also enjoyed watching his Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Guardians, and Cleveland Browns. An avid hometown sports fan he was always up for a game of gin or euchre and supporting Walsh Jesuit Basketball.
He married Dianne Hanna (Beltram) in 1967 and moved to Cuyahoga Falls where they raised three sons: Jim, Jeff, and John. After 20 years of marriage the couple separated; soon after, Dan then married Paula Hamby. The couple resided in Canal Fulton, Ohio and later onto Florida with her two children before he returned to Ohio in 2013 where he lived until his death.
He was preceded in death by his mother Eleanor and father Daniel. Dan is survived by his sister Mona Lea DeAngelis and his niece Danielle; his sons James (Chrissy), Jeff (Julie), and John (Teresa), his stepchildren Michael and Krista Hamby; as well as his granddaughters Jenna, Sarah, and Olivia and grandsons Jaret and Brandon.
Cremation took place with a private family service. Prayers for the family are cherished and donations can be made to the charity of your choice in his name.
