Dan F. Darrow, age 93, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, surrounded by his family. Dan was born on March 9, 1933, in Akron, Ohio to Floyd and Mary Lou (McCool) Darrow.
He attended South high school where he was an all-city and all-county basketball player. His playing career continued at Baldwin Wallace University. Dan continued playing in Class A and Slow Break Leagues. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales parish for more than 50 years before moving to Florida and enjoyed coaching youth basketball and football while there. He was a former member of the Akron Catholic Youth Organization Athletic Board along with the Summit County Referees Association.
Dan became a member of Teamsters Local #348 while he was in high school and worked on the docks at Cotter Merchandising. He went to work for Tramonte Distributing after college. Dan started with Teamsters Local #348 as a business representative. He eventually became the Secretary-Treasurer and Business Manager from 1962 until his retirement in 1995. His work ethic, leadership, dedication, along with his negotiating skills, improved working conditions for thousands of union members. He organized Christmas parties, family picnics, and scholarship funds for the membership. Dan was instrumental in forming the Teamsters National UPS Labor Contract where he would eventually become the first UPS Division Director that had grown into the largest labor contract in the country.
Dan was dedicated to his family and cherished holiday picnics, pig roasts, and family dinners at Dontino's restaurant. He leaves behind many friends at Ocean Resorts in Fort Pierce, Florida, where he spent the winters before becoming a full-time resident.
Dan was proceeded in death by his loving wife Carole, daughter Leann Stasik, and sisters Virginia Hochstettler and Mary Edmundson.
He is survived by his sister Shirley Summerville, and his children Dan Jr. (Marge) Darrow, Carolyn (Russ) Grote, Larry Darrow, Patrick (Denise) Darrow, grandchildren Kristen (Alan) Stucker, Ashley (Zach) Leskanic, Lisa (Zack) Babcock, Danielle (Brian) Macejko, Christopher (Cori) Stasik, Ryan (Betsy) Grote, Patrick Grote, Kevin Grote, Lauren (Joe) Guenther, Drew (Kelsey) Darrow, Conner Darrow, and Olivia Darrow. He also leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Reserve Care Hospice of Medina for their care and compassion.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 21, from 3-6 pm, at the Anthony Funeral Home - Akron Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday June 22, 11 am, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church 4019 Manchester Rd. in the Portage Lakes.
