Charles Hartsel Wilson

October 21, 1928 — June 5, 2015

Charles Hartsel Wilson, 86, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2015.
He was born October 21, 1928, in Grafton, West Virginia, moving his family to Akron in 1953. As a member of the Akron Baptist Temple, he served as deacon and usher. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company after 34 years of service as an electrician and electrical supervisor. A veteran of the United States Army, Charlie was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant after serving in the Korean Conflict.
He was an exceptionally gifted man-building or repairing anything, most especially a lovely home for his family's comfort-while also working a 6- or 7-day work week. He loved farming, and his greatest pleasure was toting grandchildren on "Pop-Pop's" tractor. In recent years, watching the antics of his great-grandchildren kept him actively engaged in family life.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ella Wilson; one brother; and three sisters. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 64 years, Betty (Craft); children, Paula Buie, David (Kathryn) Wilson, Debra (David) McNair and Marla Meek; grandchildren, Ryan (Sarah) McNair, Shane (Nicole) Buie, Dr. Tavis (Tiffany) McNair, Davina (Matthew) Main and Aaron Meek; great-grandchildren, Ian, Caden, Nathaniel, Liam, Clara, Alyvia, Aria, Cora and Elia; brothers Darrel and Arnold (Lucille); sister Betty Gough; and a large extended family.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the Akron Baptist Temple, Rev. Ed Holland officiating. Private interment will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. Akron, Ohio 44301. (Anthony, Akron, 330-724-1281, www.anthonyfh.com)
