Cathy Thompson of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at the age of 66. She was a devoted wife, sister, aunt and friend, and to the people who loved her, she was the one who brought joy and laughter.
Cathy was born and raised in the Cuyahoga Falls area of Ohio and spent part of her adult life there before she and her husband, Jim, headed south to Florida. They embraced the sun and the water, and spent years soaking up both, especially out on the boat. When it was time to be closer to family, they settled in Raleigh. Jim was always at her side with their beloved dogs never far behind. In every chapter, Cathy met life with a joyful laugh, her faith, and a heart that always had room for one more.
Cathy was happiest when she was hosting. Her table always had more than enough, and she made sure everyone was welcome, fed and taken care of. Friends were family to her, and family was everything. She treasured every hour with the people she loved, who could always count on a plate of cookies and a few belly laughs.
Cathy loved wholeheartedly and unconditionally. She remembered what mattered to people and had a knack for the perfect gift. She made everyone feel like she was their biggest fan, and especially when times were hardest. She could laugh at herself, too. In her twenties, a goat tried to hitch a ride in her car. She was not amused. These days, her family says, she'd throw the door open, buckle the goat in and head out for a Sunday drive.
Cathy joins her parents, Joe and Janet Santos, who preceded her in death in 2023 and 2025. We like to think she is dancing in heaven with them now. She is survived by her husband, Jim Thompson; her sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Frank Andrassy of Raleigh; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bob and Linda Thompson of Cuyahoga Falls; her uncle and aunt, Bill and Pat Santos of Cuyahoga Falls; and many loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and grandchildren.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 17, 11:00 am, with the family receiving friends for one hour prior to the service at the Anthony Funeral Home - Falls Chapel (formerly McGowan-Reid & Santos), 247 Stow Ave. in Cuyahoga Falls. Interment will follow at Chestnut Hill Memorial Gardens in Cuyahoga Falls.
