Candace R. (Wurzel) Dean

March 7, 1949 — April 5, 2023

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Candace R. Dean.
She died on April 5th, 2023, at the age of 74 due to Parkinson's Disease, which she courageously battled for 17 years. Candace died peacefully at home in her husbands' arms with family by her side.
Candace was born March 7, 1949 in Fremont, Ohio to Richard and Phillis Wurzel (Smith). She attended Fremont Ross High School where she received several academic awards for her efforts and continued her brilliant academic excellence when she attended college.
Candace will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, forgiveness, and unconditional love to family and friends. She was truly a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife, and a friend to many.
She was a teacher at Massillon Washington High School in Stark County where she taught advanced English and Literature for 25 years. She frequently talked about her bright and talented students and several recognized her as their outstanding educator. She also coached speech and debate while she was at Massillon Washington High School, and she was proud in helping send many students to state competition.
Candace loved horses and she had several, but her most cherished was a horse named "Shiloh", a big, beautiful Tennessee Walker. She looked forward to spending the day trail riding with her husband, relatives, and friends. She frequently attended horse shows in Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee. She enjoyed teaching others to ride and appreciate horses.
Candace met her husband at Bowling Green State University where they attended college together and there, she earned her Bachelor of Science In Education and later her master's degree from Kent State University.
Candace is survived by her husband, Mark of 52 years; sons Brian (Pam), Brad (Chanda), and Scott; three beautiful and bright granddaughters, Phillis (15), Grey (11) and Harper (9). She is also survived by her brother Dennis Wurzel (Karen) and many nieces, and cousins.
Her wishes are for cremation. The family will hold a private celebration of her life at a later date. She would appreciate people donate to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson Foundation to help find a cure for this devastating disease, or if this not possible just embrace the people you care for and be there for others. The family would like to thank everyone at the Cleveland Clinic Hospice Care Unit, especially nurse Tonya, for their exceptional care and love they gave Candace in her final days.
