Calvin E. Sabo, 82, passed away surrounded by family on June 2, 2023.
Cal was born in Clairton, PA on December 28, 1940 to the late Zolton & Aileen Sabo. In addition to his parents, Cal was preceded in death by his brother Robert and brothers-in-law Gary Osborne & Bob Kline. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Rita; his children Eric (Amy) Sabo and Lori (Andy) Stiles; grandchildren Devon (Haley), Brendon (Maria), Andrew, David, & Grace; great-grandson Gabriel; sister Sheila Butler & sister-in-law Joan Osborne.
He was a 1958 graduate of Clairton High School. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country in the period prior to the Vietnam War. His journey in the military took him across the globe to places such as: Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and the Philippines. He loved telling tales of his adventures with his shipmates who became lifelong friends. He graduated from Kent State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Economics in 1966. He worked for 33 years for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., retiring in 2001. While walking the halls of Goodyear, he didn't know his life was about to forever change when he laid eyes on a beautiful redhead named Rita. This romance blossomed quickly and has become a love story for the ages. They were married on October 31, 1970 with the blessing of Pope Paul VI. Their next step of their journey led them down the path of parenthood where they embraced this role with every fiber of their being. Family meant the world to Cal and he would do anything for them. He wore many hats during his lifetime but none were more precious to him than being a husband, father and "Big Papa". Cal loved to talk and laugh with anyone who would listen and always brought a smile to their faces. He truly was a servant leader who wanted the best for everyone he encountered. He had a booming laugh and others were drawn to his infectious personality. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed rooting them on with family and friends. His passion for his team led to many great memories and also led to the creation of many family traditions, including a chant that was created by Cal. "Steeler Boy, Steeler Boy, Ying, Yang, You! Steeler Boy, Steeler Boy, We Love You". Cal made such an impact on everyone's lives and will be greatly missed!
