Bobby D. Sloan, age 97, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 25,2025.
Bob was born on July 5, 1927, in Albany, Kentucky to the late James and Monte Sloan. He lived a blessed life and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He enjoyed 19 years with his beloved wife and best friend, Thelma E. Sloan; son Tommy Sloan, grandchildren Sarah Sloan (Clayton King) great granddaughter Selah Sloan; granddaughter Brandy Klouse and great granddaughters Hailey and Chloe Klouse; grandson Jesse Sloan, and granddaughter Olivia Sloan; daughter Terri (Dale) Moncrief, grandchildren Lindsey (Toni) Bisconti, Taylor (Sarah) Moncrief and great grandchildren; Andrew, Edith and Bridget, grandson Mackenzie Moncrief; son Bobby (Heidi) Sloan, grandchildren Jake and Hannah Sloan; daughter Andrea Cowgar and grandchildren Reese and Theron Cowgar; step sons Ryan (Erin) Minnier and Joshua (Kristin) Minnier, step granddaughter Alyssa Minnier; his loving sister Jane Davis, sisters-in-law Arnita Sloan, Delores Sloan and Connie Sloan and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years and mother of his children, Sally (Reese) Sloan; son David; brothers Osco, Andrew, Bruce, Bill, Horace, James, Harold; and sisters Betty Willen, Mildred Wright and Sue Lee Burton.
Bob moved to Akron, Ohio with his parents in 1943. He spent his years working and later driving as a teamster at Lee Way Motor Freight for 38 years before retiring. He was a member of the Celebration Church of Akron, OH. He dearly loved volunteering and serving God with his beloved church family. He was also a long-time member of the Cathedral of Tomorrow where he first dedicated his life to Jesus Christ.
Bob was a devoted husband and father and grandfather. He loved his family so very much, and we know because he told everyone all the time how much he loved them! Bob prayed. He would name every family member and friend when he did. He taught his family to love God and to show God's love in all that we do.
Bob loved to tinker with his cars, hunt, and take long drives or trips to visit family and friends. Being behind the wheel, out of the road made him happy. He made friends everywhere he went-there were never strangers, just opportunities to make new friends and share the good news of God's love and salvation, whether it be at a store, restaurant, rest stop or out on the street. He was never ashamed or afraid to share his faith. He would stop and help people anytime he felt God was pointing him to someone, to give them coats, money, gasoline, or food.
Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 5, 5-8 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home - Akron Chapel, 1990 S. Main St., Akron. The funeral will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, March 6, 11 am, followed by interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
