Blake Ivan Weller, 104, passed away May 1, 2025 in Wheaton, Illinois.
Blake was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on May 19, 1920 to Howard and Elda nee Weaver. He was very proud to have grown up in Akron but still had deep roots to his relatives in Pennsylvania. Blake attended Hower Trade School. He was a man of many skills and many jobs. In his twenty's, he completed the U.S. Merchant Marine training, built Liberty ships in Baltimore, MD, and served in the US Navy from 1944-1946. Blake and his wife Margaret Jean were married in 1947. Following his service in the Navy, Blake worked as a lineman for Ohio Edison. He later hired into the Goodyear Tire and Rubber company as an electrician and retired after 33 years of service. He took pride in that most of his apprentices that he mentored while at the Goodyear went on into supervision. Blake served as a deacon at the Akron High Street Christian Church. After retiring, he enjoyed participating in the bowling league for Goodyear retirees for 34 years. Caring for his centennial home was always at the top of his activities.
Blake was a kind and faithful man who had many good friends. He always had a great story to relate that usually had a core of wisdom. He was adored by all types of animals from cats and dogs to horses and geese. It was a rare horse that would not follow his direction.
In addition to his parents, Blake is preceded in death by his wife M. Jean; his brothers Leroy, Furrel, and Byron; and sisters Anna Mary and Twila. He is survived by his son Bradford (Elizabeth); grandchildren Zoe Weller and Major Blake T. Weller, USMC (Pam); and 3 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, May 9 at 11 AM at the Anthony Funeral Home - Green Chapel, 4178 Massillon Rd. (entrance off Steese Road), with the family receiving friends beginning at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Greensburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army or the Alzheimer's Association.
