Blaine F. Muehlbauer, 67, of Akron, Ohio passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at his home.
A graduate of Warren G. Harding HS, Blaine enlisted in the US Army , where he was active duty for 6 years and had been stationed in Darmstadt, Germany. It was during this time that he was able to entertain his parents and brother, Mark, as they traveled overseas to visit him and tour Europe. Once he completed his active duty, he enlisted in the Ohio Army National Guard for an additional 6 years and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sargeant.
Blaine then attended Kent State University, achieving a BS degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement and then furthering his education at Akron University by getting a Masters in Community Health Services/Counseling. For many decades Blaine provided individual and group counseling to the poor and underprivileged. His passion was helping those with mental health issues and providing them with access to any and all services to aid them. He also served as a Mentor to other team members at work for their career advancement. In this way, he was able to pass down his enthusiasm for his craft to others in his field, becoming a lasting legacy.
Blaine had a wonderful sense of humor, a wicked intellect and a passionate love for his cats, from his first cat Chessie to his last furbaby, Sam. Blaine was known to also enjoy a beer or three frequently. He would hoist a cold brew and then entertain everyone with his ability to decipher the "cousins once removed generations chart" . We were all sufficiently impressed at his many talents. He was a voracious reader of history, and a dedicated congregant of his Catholic faith. He believed deeply in being of service to others, and was a regular Reader at his church, St. Bernards in Akron.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul J. and Gloria Barber Muehlbauer, as well as his sisters, Paula Muehlbauer Mathis and infant sister, Gretchen Lee Muehlbauer.
Blaine will be dearly missed by his niece, Tori Muehlbauer, as well by his brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Judy Muehlbauer. A special mention to his very close friends, Karen, Chris and Abbey and their daughter Emma. He loved all of you as if you were his blood relatives and your friendships sustained him throughout his life. He also was very close to his family of cousins, from Minnesota, Colorado, Ohio and beyond. He cherished these family ties.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 3, 2024, 10:00 am, with the family receiving friends for one hour prior at St. Bernard Catholic Church 44 University Ave, Akron. Interment with full military honors will follow at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
