Barbara Jean (Cassler) Smith

Our Mother, Barbara Jean Cassler Smith, 91, of Green, OH passed away on February 25, 2025 and has joined her husband, David L. Smith, in heaven. We have lost our angel here on earth.

Barbara was born to parents Ray Atlee Cassler and Thelma Biery Cassler, in Massillon, OH. She graduated from Washington High in Massillon, OH and was the oldest daughter of five children. She is survived by siblings: Richard Cassler, Shirley Crawford, and Sally Higgins (John) and preceded in death by Cora Briggs (John).

Barbara was married to David Lee Smith on June 25, 1955, and is survived by her children: Christopher Smith (Pamella Spence), Beth Ann Smith, Bradley Smith (Lynn Smead), and Jean Wurgler (Michael); Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren; and is preceded in death by her son, Gregory, and grandson, Colin.

Mom taught us through example by living her life with grace, tenacity, service, faith and refusing to let any obstacle slow her down. At her heart, she was first and foremost a nurturer and enjoyed having all her 'chicks' around her. We, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, are her legacy and what she was most proud of.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 2 from 1:00-4:00PM at Anthony Funeral Home, 4175 Massillon Road in Green, OH (entrance off Steese). Funeral mass will be at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 1800 Steese Road on Monday, March 3 at 10:00AM, followed by internment at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens, Franks Rd.
