Arvid Uitto

Arvid Kaleva Uitto, 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 23, 2022.
Arvid was born in Warren, OH on February 20, 1927 to the late Carl & Mary Uitto and was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, where he played basketball. He served his country during WWII as a member of the US Navy. He worked for the Ford Motor Company, along with other jobs, before retiring at the age of 88. He was an original and the last living founding member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Stow, where he served on council, sang in the choir, ushered, taught Sunday School, and was part of the Wednesday Work Crew. Arvid was an avid Cleveland Sports fan, as well as the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was the co-founder of a youth basketball clinic in Stow, officiated high school basketball, was a proud supporter of Stow Athletic Boosters, and built the press box and the concession stand at the old Stow High School, where he ran the score board during football games.
In addition to his parents, Arvid was preceded in death by his wife Shirley in 2016; son-in-law Jeff Reid, as well as 5 siblings. He is survived by his children Barbara Reid, Bruce (Waynette) Uitto, Judy (Steve) Hanneman, & Diane (Russ) Cozart; grandchildren Erica (Tommy) Hinson, Lauren Hanneman, Jacqueline (Mike) Nicholls, Camille Uitto, Lindsey Hanneman, Leo (Audra) Uitto, Payton (Kodie) Cozart, & Gannen Cozart; great-grandchildren Aidan, Leila, Jaxson, Lincoln, Kade, Ella, & Stella.
He was loved and will be missed.
A memorial service will take place at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, where Arvid was the last living founding member, 3725 Kent Rd. in Stow on February 27th, 2 pm, where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
