My Grandma by Kelly Kortvejesi, May 21, 2016
You can measure the tragedy when the strongest men you know are crying.
Anne Deme Kortvejesi born of Hungarian immigrants and married to a Hungarian American was my grandma. She was the matriarch of our family. Grandma was fiercely loyal, loving and generous to her family and friends.
She was the one we all shared our lives with and the one we sought advice for living our lives. Right or wrong she was there for you. Calling you out on your crap if needed with tough love or sharing in the joys. No one said anything the way Grandma could. She always caught you off guard because you could NEVER be prepared for her words or the timing of the stories of her 92 years of life she would share.
She lived 16 years after Grandpa died on Valentine's Day and three months after her brother passed on Valentine's Day this year. It truly broke her heart losing both men she adored on the same holiday as her strength slowly diminished over the past ninety days. It is with tremendous grief that I say she left us earlier this morning at 4:45 am to carry on all that she was, through the rest of our lives and our future generations.
