Anna Martyniuk

January 11, 1932 — June 4, 2019

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our wife, mother, and grandmother, Anna (Chmil) Martyniuk. Born January 11, 1932 in New York City to William and Evdowkia Chmil, Anna and her sister Mary were raised in their Ukrainian community. Anna attended public school in NYC and eventually became an executive secretary at multiple companies.
She met her life companion, Osyp, in NYC and after their wedding at St. George's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Manhattan, they moved to Oklahoma for the completion of Osyp's education. They lived in Texas and Michigan before settling in Kent, OH. While Osyp became a professor of architecture at Kent State University, Anna became a secretary there, mostly in the Department of Mathematics. She worked at KSU until her retirement.
Her greatest achievement was her family--a mother to four children: John (Renee), Andrew, Maria (David) and Irene, and grandmother to Katerina, Nicholas, Alexander and Natalia. She was happiest when helping others. She was kind, gentle, and loving, but also fiercely protective, especially of her family. Although she battled multiple illnesses, she never lost her faith in God and love for her husband, children, and grandchildren. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family.
The calling hours will be Monday, June 10 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Anthony Kucko funeral home in Akron with a funeral liturgy on Tuesday at 10 AM at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in Akron. She will be interred at St. Andrew's cemetery in North Royalton, OH. A wake will follow the interment. Donations in her memory can be made to Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in Akron.
