Anna (Makara) Bohacz, 98, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2019. Anna, one of 4 children was born on June, 26, 1920 to Theodore and Katarina Makara in Belkhivka ,Poland, a small village located in the western region of the Carpathian mountains. In March of 1940, Anna at the age of 19 was forcibly taken from her family and home and transported by train to Germany, where she was placed on a forced labor farm near Stuttgart. When the war ended she went to a displaced persons camp near Augsburg, Germany. In 1947, Anna married Wasyl Salasz (b:1922-d:1951) father to Millie (Salasz) Fedeckyj, their only child. They immigrated to Allentown, PA in 1949. After her husband's death, Anna moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey to join her brother, Walter Makara and his family. She remarried in 1953 to Stephan Bohacz. Anna was an active member of St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Elizabeth, N.J. She belonged to the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality, "the Pierogi Crew", and many other church organizations and activities.
Anna and Stephan moved to Akron, Ohio in 1982 and became members of Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church where she also volunteered making Pierogi. She was an excellent seamstress, very talented at cross-stitching, embroidering and baking. She had the amazing ability to fix just about anything. Stefan passed away in 1985 and she continued on her own to offer help and support to her family.
Anna had incredible strength and fortitude to never falter despite the many hardships she endured. Her outlook was always positive ("Be good to each other") and encouraging. Her gentle touch, caring nature, understanding silence and unending supportive disposition will make her live on through her words and deeds for the many people she knew and loved.
She is survived by her daughter, Millie (Myron) Fedeckyj, granddaughter, Christina (Ryan) Allio and great granddaughter, Sloane Emory Allio and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Walter, Stephan, and Antoine Makara . The family would like to thank the staff of Rockynol for their support and Grace Hospice for their care and kindness.
Friends are kindly invited to the Kucko-Anthony-Kertez Funeral Chapel,  1990 S. Main St., Akron TOMORROW, Sunday January 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. Parastas services will be at 6:30. Funeral Liturgy will begin Monday 10:30AM with prayers at the funeral home, followed by Mass beginning at 11AM at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1866 Brown St, Akron, Ohio, 44301. Fr. Vsevolod Shevchuk will be officiating. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron.
