Andrew James Kornas

Andrew J. "Jim" Kornas, 82, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully in his sleep September 10, 2026.

Jim was born January 26, 1944 to the late Andrew and Ann Kornas. Jim lived in the Akron, Stow-Kent area all of his life. He worked at Goodyear and later owned and operated Yenom Auto Leasing and Auto Sales in Canton. He was a member of Akron Baptist Temple until its closure being faithful to his faith till the day his Lord called him to his eternal home. Along with his love for God, demonstrated his love for his country serving in the U.S. Army in South Korea, until being Honorably Discharged.

During his life, Jim's other loves included Boating, Fishing, Playing Golf, and most importantly his family and friends. Jim loved and enjoyed his pet companions over the years, his last dog of 23 years Fluffy, had a special bond with him. But he loved and missed all the pets he had through the years.

Jim had a great faith and love for the Lord, and though unable to attend church, he often listened to

sermons on TV and enjoyed listening to Gospel Music, sometimes so loudly it got him in trouble.

Jim was a man a man of action who enjoyed taking his family on many trips, going boating, fishing and even Disney World, sometimes on the spurt of the moment, making sure everyone was involved whether they wanted to be or not. (In a good way).

Jim leaves his beloved and faithful wife of 54 years Marlene, who cared for him day and night during his debilitating illness for the last 40 years, along with his daughter Melissa Fauley and 3 grandchildren Connor, Carson, and Celsey. He also leaves his brother John W. and his wife Linda, as well as niece Tiffany, nephew of Sean and grandniece Dawn.

Also left to mourn his passing are his faithful sister-in-law and caregiver Darlene Menhorn, nephew Scott and his wife Amy, and their children Sophia and Chase, Nephew Brian and his wife Amy, and their daughter Abbie. and Nephew Mark and his children Taylor and Cole, along with Mark's girlfriend, Jamie, who Jim really liked, and was looking forward to getting to know better.

After Jim's liver transplant in 1986, he went into a coma for 9 months caused by an allergic reaction.

When he awoke from the coma, he lost his speech, and it affected his motor skills and his ability to walk, but Jim, due to his determination (or stubbornness) didn't give up, living another 40 years. And during those 40 years, Marlene and her sister Darlene dedicated their lives to caring for Jim, never leaving his side. Jim was always thankful for their devotion, help, love, and care. He deeply loved both of these angels of mercy.

Andrew was interred at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 with full military honors.
