Amy Gene McGhee, 68, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Cleveland Clinic Akron General after a brave and long battle with breast cancer. Amy was born August 7, 1953 to the late Eugene and Anna (Rowe) Mullens in Akron.
Amy grew up in Green and was a graduate of Green High School. She became an LPN through the Akron City Hospital School of Nursing. She loved caring for people and found joy in her long career as a nurse. She started her career at Little Forest Nursing Home. She later worked at Akron General Medical Center, then worked almost two decades for The Heart Group. She later was the Director of Community CareGivers of Akron and then retired from Summa as the Coordinator of Home and Hospice.
Amy loved indoor and outdoor gardening. She loved drinking her tea in the backyard and admiring and caring for her flowers. Her true passion and great love was her grandchildren. She went to all their school and extracurricular activities. She just loved being with them no matter what they were doing. She would always say, "I'm going to squeeze your face off!" She always taught them to be their best selves and to always have faith in God.
Amy is survived by her husband of 21 years, Patrick; children Lisa (Dragi) Kimevski, Laura (Michael) Morrison, Jill (Rycki) Tally and John McGhee (Samantha); grandchildren Michael and Anna Kimevski, Maya and Emmie Morrison, Rayshawn McGhee, Cialynn and Lauren Covington and Evan, Victoria and Adalynne McGhee; three great grandchildren; brother Joe Emery Mullins and former husband James Hughes.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 1 to 4 pm at the Anthony Funeral Home, 1990 S. Main St. Akron where a funeral service will be held at 4:00pm. A reception will follow the service in the funeral home community room.
