On February 10, 1962, Al married Joan Musci (nee Davidson) at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, the former St. Martha Catholic Church in Akron, OH.

Al was a graduate of North High School and Hammel Business College. He then served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. After returning home from the Army, he resumed working at the Fred W. Albrecht Grocery Company, where he had worked during high school. He started as a stock boy, worked his way up to assistant store manager, and eventually moved to the corporate office. Al finished his career as the tax manager at the Fred W. Albrecht Grocery Company, retiring after 45 years of service.
After retirement, Al enjoyed working with children as an aide at Stow Munroe Falls City Schools. Throughout his life, he enjoyed many family camping trips, playing volleyball with friends, traveling, and attending water pilates classes at the Natatorium. He was an avid gardener, carpenter, poker and euchre player and fisherman. Many people knew Al for his wit and sense of humor. He took great pride in his family and treasured any type of family gathering, whether it was a celebration at home, a vacation together, or time spent talking. On one of our family cruises, he sat back and smiled, saying, "This is what it's all about.", as he looked at his family with pride and happiness.
In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by, sister, Barbara O'Konek; niece, Stephanie O'Konek; in-laws, Charles and Lillian Davidson; sister-in-law, Phyllis Tainsh; and many cherished friends.
