Alan was also known as Jim, AKA Uncle Jim, AKA Uncle Sneezy, & AKA Uncle Mole, passed away on October 14, 2023.
Born in Wadsworth in 1953 to Les and Frances Root he lived there until his family moved to Bath Maine. After a short stay in Maine the family moved to Havertown Pa. At Havertown High School Alan caught the eye of the Varsity Football, Wrestling and Lacrosse coach and was picked to be the manager for all 3 sports. Alan was a 3 year varsity letterman under that coach.
Upon graduating from High School he went to work at the Sun Ship Shipyard in West Chester Pa. Alan was a apprentice welder and became a journeyman welder building ships. He came back to Doylestown to be the best man in his brothers wedding and went to work at B&W Construction Company as a welder in the shop. In a downturn he left B&W and went to work for the family business Akron Hydraulic. He remained there until retirement.
Alan was loved by many, the family would like to thank the staff at The Barn for always watching out for him on a Friday night. Dr. Scantling was a tremendous help to the family as Alan traveled the last few miles. The excellent staff at Cleveland Clinic Hospice that lovingly cared for Alan and walked him home safely.
Alan was preceded in death by grandparents, parents. He is survived by his little brother Doug (Diane); nephews Dan (Julie) Root, Dave (Brittany) Root; great nieces Bella and Maddy and great nephews Max and Alex.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 21, at 10:00 am at the Anthony Funeral Home Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Chapel, 1990 S. Main St. in Akron, followed by interment at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Doylestown.
Alan will be missed by many. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to Cleveland Clinic Hospice or better yet, do a random act of kindness and remember Alan. (Anthony-AKRON)
