Edwina Elaine "Winnie" (Martin) Daugherty born September 13, 1939, in Akron, Ohio to James Maxwell Martin and Frances M. (Stockwell) Martin passed away peacefully in her sleep April 13, 2024.
She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Charles P. Martin, Isabelle Arlene Pryor, twin brother Edwin J. Martin, and son Thomas. She is survived by her daughter in law Joyce Crouse, sons Todd (Jessica) Crouse, Tim (Annemarie) Crouse, Sean (Chelsy) Daughterty, grandchildren Tommy (Jillian), Jackie (Carlson), Krista (Oseas), Jacob (Faith), Nathanael, Arianna, Vanessa, Mitchell, Tony, Abigail, Dathan, Abram, Ezra, and Miriam. Great-grandchildren Gracie, Josie, Elsie, Brooks and Mary, many nieces and nephews and special niece Beth Ann Liston.
Winnie had an ornery smile and a magnificent dimple to go with it which drew people in, one being her first husband Thomas Earl Crouse whom she married in September of 1960. They resided in Cuyahoga Falls where they raised their three boys Tom, Todd, and Tim. She worked at Stutzman grocery in the meat department when the boys were young. This was beneficial, because she was able to bring home the better cuts of meat to feed the growing boys.
Winnie had horrible cataracts at a very young age in life, having to wear "pop bottle" glasses and true glass contacts (which her twin brother accidentally threw down the drain) to be able to minimally see outlines and shadows. When she had her cataract surgery in the early 1970's it truly was an eye-opening milestone for her. She was finally able to see exclaiming "Now I can finally see my boys!"
She married Dale Alan Daugherty in June of 1974 and they resided in Cuyahoga Falls where they raised their son Sean.
Later in life she worked at Country Place nursing home in Cuyahoga Falls as a nurse's aide. This position led to her true calling in life - private duty home health care. She took care of numerous patients for years until they passed on. She had a special bond with each patient and their families. She had a way of easing the families' minds knowing that their loved one was in good hands making the patients comfortable living life to the fullest during their final days.
Winnie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Tallmadge Ward, being involved in the Relief Society. She loved to sing - making up her own silly songs, and even doing so to celebrate each family member's birthday. She also loved to draw and had several pieces of her artwork purchased while she resided at Chapel Hill Community Nursing Home.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Chapel Hill Community for their love, patience, kindness, and care given to Winnie over the last 7 years.
